Established in 1978, Kettle Foods is a leading premium salty snack company in the United States and the United Kingdom, consistently producing the No. 1 natural potato chip brand in these markets. From three sites in the US and UK, Kettle manufactures fried and baked potato chips, as well as roasted nuts, nut butters and tortilla chips.
Under Lion’s ownership from 2006 to 2010, Kettle achieved significant distribution and market penetration gains in the UK and the US, leading to double-digit annualised growth in group revenues. In 2007, the company added a second manufacturing facility in the United States, doubling capacity in that market and significantly reducing distribution costs. Strong revenue growth and margin improvements led to 30% annualised growth in profitability over this same period. In the final year of Lion's ownership, Kettle employed over 700 people and generated sales of over $250 million. In March 2010, Lion Capital sold Kettle Foods to Diamond Foods, Inc. (NASDAQ: DMND).
